Why personalised

The best presents are the ones that could only be theirs.

A name stitched into a collar, a portrait of a particular grey muzzle, a bed that fits one very specific way of sleeping — personalised things tend to be made by small workshops and individual makers, and they’re usually kept long after the ordinary things have gone.

We look for personalisation that’s done well: clear lettering, good materials, sensible lead times and makers who explain exactly what you’ll receive.

Before you order

A short checklist for personalised orders

Worth two minutes before you press “buy” on the maker’s site.

  • Check spelling and layout twice. Most makers produce exactly what you type, and some ask you to approve a proof.
  • Look at the lead time. Made-to-order items can take days or weeks — worth knowing before a birthday or Christmas.
  • Read the returns policy. Under UK consumer law, goods made to your specification or clearly personalised are usually excluded from the standard 14-day right to cancel an online order. Faulty items are a different matter.
  • Measure your dog properly for anything that needs to fit — collars, harnesses, coats and beds.
  • For ID tags, check what’s legally required. In Great Britain a dog in a public place must wear a collar with the owner’s name and address on it or on a tag attached to it (some working dogs are exempt).
