This policy explains what personal information Unique Dog Finds collects when you use this website, why, and what your rights are. We collect as little as possible.

Who we are

Unique Dog Finds is an independent website run by an individual based in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for this website. You can contact us through our contact page or at hello@uniquedogfinds.co.uk.

What we collect

If you contact us

When you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We use this only to read and reply to your message. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.

We keep messages for up to 12 months and then delete them, unless we still need them to deal with your enquiry.

When you visit the site

Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically processes technical information when pages are requested — such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure. We don’t use it to identify you.

What we don’t collect

We don’t run analytics or advertising trackers, we don’t have user accounts, we don’t take payments, and we don’t have a mailing list.

Services we use

• Netlify hosts the website and receives contact form submissions on our behalf. Netlify is based in the United States.
• Fonts and photographs are served from our own hosting. Pages on this site don’t load anything from Google or any other third-party service.

Where personal information is processed outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards the provider offers under UK data protection law.

Links to retailers

Our finds link to other websites. Once you leave Unique Dog Finds, the retailer’s own privacy policy applies. Some links may be affiliate links: when you follow one, the retailer or the affiliate network (such as Awin) may use cookies or similar technology on their own sites to record that you came from us, so that a commission can be paid if you buy. We don’t receive your name, contact details or payment information from them. See our affiliate disclosure.

The Dog Name Generator

The Dog Name Generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us. If you save favourite names, they’re kept in your browser’s local storage on your own device so they’re still there next time; we can’t see them, and you can remove them with the “Clear favourites” button or by clearing your browser data.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct or delete it. You can also object to how we use it. To make a request, please contact us.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes

We’ll update this policy whenever we change how the site works — for example if we add analytics — and change the date at the top.
